FAQ

Filtration

What are HEPA filters?

A lot of people don’t realize that their furnaces, air conditioner, and other heating and cooling systems are equipped with HEPA filters. These air filters are designed to remove particles from the air you breathe.

The process your furnace or air conditioner uses to clean the air is called filtration. Because it’s so important for your health, these filters need to be cleaned periodically. Keeping them clean will help keep you safe from airborne allergens like dust mites and pollen.

Dust particles are tiny pieces of dirt that float in the air. They can spread disease and cause allergic reactions in some people. But HEPA filters will capture dust particles down to 0.3 microns in size — 3 times smaller than what even a medical microscope can see!

How do I know when to get my filters changed?

There are a couple of reasons why you should get your air ducts cleaned, however, the general rule would be to change a lower efficient filter less often than a higher efficiency filter. A lower efficient filter will allow more air and more particulates to pass through the filter. Such low-efficient filters take longer to load (get dirty), and take a longer time to slow down the airflow. Those filters with a lower MERV rating have a lower efficiency percentage for capturing particles. In most instances, the loading process will take much longer than 30 days.

What filter is best for our home or business?

When it comes to air filtration, there are thousands of possible combinations. Each different filter and filtration system has advantages and disadvantages over the others, so it’s important that you choose what’s best for your situation. Lucky Duct has a range of professional tests that can be performed on different filtration systems to provide you with an in-depth analysis of the airflow.

Odors

I have a strange odor in my home, how can I find the root cause?

You have had a problem with odors in your home or business, but it is not common to try to solve the problem on your own. Odors are one of the most difficult problems to address.

A clogged air duct can cause a host of problems from poor indoor air quality to a stale, musty smell. From the time your perspiration causes oil or grease to build up on the surface of your clothes until it turns into a permanent fixture embedded within the fibers of your clothing, odors don’t just linger in your clothes but permeate the air around you and can be very difficult, if not impossible to remove. If you are looking for help dealing with the odor, Lucky Duct has all the information you need. Just give us a call!

Humidification

I have a whole house humidifier, why is the air still dry?

You do not want to go through life with a dry nose and throat, cracked wood cabinetry, and warping floors. These issues can occur when the humidity in your home is too low. In fact, it might be too late already due to how fast you are drying out. Dry air causes dry eyes, cracks on your skin, dull hair, and a host of other symptoms that in turn lead to more health problems down the road. There is a solution though…humidity in your home needs to be controlled by an intelligent humidification system. Now some people may be asking “If I have dry eyes why am I not using eye drops?” This happens because the moisture from the water vapor evaporates into your eyes instead of surrounding them with moisture enabling them to moisturize themselves; thus maintaining proper bodily function instead of forcing someone else to do it for them.

Air Duct Cleaning

We just moved in and we are dealing with a lot of dust, will air duct cleaning help?

Most of our clients are homeowners who have just moved into freshly constructed homes.

How does air duct cleaning work?

We advise air duct cleaning for people who dust more frequently than usual and for those who have symptoms related to airborne particles. Cleaning your air ducts is only effective if done correctly.

Air Purification

Is a small room air cleaner better than a whole-house air cleaner?

If your home has been built in the last few decades, then you are most likely enjoying the benefits of an air cleaner. This type of room air cleaner will help you clean up odors or particles that enter your home through your ductwork. Modern cleaning systems provide a new way to enjoy your home without having to worry about cleaning up a mess on a regular basis.
